Melinda does Doris again, The Movie Songs is Melinda’s new album to be released on 21st October 2016!
Six-time Golden Guitar winner, Melinda Schneider will release her new studio album which continues her heartfelt homage to Hollywood movie legend, the wonderful Doris Day.
MELINDA DOES DORIS AGAIN – THE MOVIE SONGS will be released on the 21st October and features some of the most memorable movie songs of all time, including Pillow Talk (from the 1969 film), Just Blew In From The Windy City (from the 1953 film Calamity Jane), Tea For Two and much more.
This album once again sees Melinda step aside from the strictly country music world as she demonstrates her love of jazz standards and musical theatre on this celebration of classic songs. With some impressive special guest appearances on four of the 15 tracks – James Morrison, Tom Burlinson, Melinda’s mother, Mary Schneider and musical theatre star Rohan Browne, this album continues a love affair with Doris Day which began when Melinda was a child.
“My first introduction to Doris was the film ‘Calamity Jane’ when I was eight years old. I fell in love with her immediately and whenever I revisit some of her old movies now, I’m transported back to that place, a place of happiness and pure joy.”
“I’ve had so much fun touring around Australia over the past five years singing these songs. There are so many people who just adore Doris, which is no surprise to me, I’m one of them! With this album I wanted to focus on Doris’ incredible body of work as an actress as well as singer and I feel blessed to have been able to record with some of the most talented and well known performers and musicians in Australia.”
The first single Young At Heart features Australian actor and singer Tom Burlinson who jumped at the opportunity to sing with Melinda on her new album. “I’ve been a fan of Melinda’s for a long time and had very much enjoyed her first album celebrating Doris Day, so I was delighted to be asked to sing the beautiful ‘Young at Heart’ with her for this second disc. The experience was a joy and I hope it may lead to further opportunities for us to perform together in the future.” Young At Heart was originally sung by Frank Sinatra in 1955 for the movie Young At Heart in which he and Doris co-starred.
Melinda Schneider is one of Australia’s great female singer/songwriters. In a career which began with a stage debut at the age of three (appearing with her mother, the legendary Mary) she is one of Australia’s most successful country music artists. With ten albums under her belt, she has earned two Gold records and won numerous awards, including six CMAA Golden Guitars – featuring 2009 Best Vocal Collaboration with Paul Kelly on Still Here, 2008 Top Selling Album for Stronger, 2005 Album Of The Year with Family Tree, APRA Song Of The Year for her song Real People and Female Vocalist Of The Year in 2003 for The Story Of My Life.
Melinda’s first Doris tribute album Melinda Does Doris – A Tribute To Doris Day, was released in 2010 and debuted at #1 on the ARIA Jazz and Blues chart. It remained there for a total of 9 weeks. Melinda went on to write and star in DORIS, the hugely successful theatre show co-written with David Mitchell (Dusty/Shout) and will be embarking on a National tour to support this new album from October 2016.
